Homestay

From Janapar

Jump to: navigation, search

Homestays are being developed all along the routes of the various Janapar trails. Each new section will have at least one homestay listed for you to try, where the homeowners have agreed to take in guests. Virtually any villager will welcome you into their home however, so the listings here are merely here to help you with information on those homes which have been looked over/tested already. You can help others out by sharing information you gather on existing and new homestays as you hike the Janapar.

The people of Karabakh are very hospitable, and if you are invited into someones home, you will usually not be expected to pay. Perhaps as the years go by, this will change, but it would run counter to the intentions of this project for visitors to stay in these homes and not contribute something. If they refuse, you may need to be very persistent, but please, make every effort to repay the kindness of strangers, and not allow their hospitality to become a burden. Conversely, if a villager tries to cheat you - simply refuse to be cheated. No matter how insistent/unreasonable they are, remain calm, feel very free to involve other neighbors/authorities, and stand your ground. Be sure to report that villagers name and the story on the message board here as a warning to others.

We have come up with a recommended price list for services that you use from villagers. They are just recommendations, but we think they are fair and hope you agree. You'll have to adjust for yourself based on your own judgment, for example on how fancy a breakfast is, if it includes a lot of good meat, honey, etc, or is simply eggs, jam and bread.
