Hadrut (Հադրութ) is a village located in Hadrut Region. Above the town of Hadrut is the small village of Spitak Khach (White Cross), named after it's church of the same name which overlooks the town of Hadrut. From the center of Hadrut, you will see some signs posted leading you to Spitak Khach Vank (monastery), in the village of Vank (1km).

I’ve spent 14 days in the city of Hadrut (in Hadrut region). I wasn’t able to hike properly because of the heavy snow (in February). But as far as I saw the foot signs are all in good condition. I’ve visited the cultural center of Hadrut and have given an English learning tape to them as there are children participating in the center’s activities during summer.

One of our home stays (where I had been living in the beginning) is a delightful couple. Hamlet is from Iran, living in Artsakh since 1999. Susan, his wife, is from Baku. They are always joking and are generally happy. Susan has a teenage girl. She is very shy and doesn’t speak much till she accepts you as a friend. They have two separate bedrooms, which can be used for 5 hikers. They don’t have a bathroom, but can prepare bathing facilities. The toilet is outside.

The other home stay is a single woman, who is a cultural worker in Hadrut. She has a nice, clean and organized house. It’s not a big house but has an indoor toilet and bathroom with shower. Next to Ms. Ira Tamrazian’s house, she also has a small room with two beds and the toilet and bathroom are in that room. Our 5 hikers can spend a night in her house. She is well informed about the history of Artsakh and the history of Hadrut.

I couldn’t find any more home stays, because of the population’s poor financial situation and in some cases the absence of a male in the house prevents them from having foreign visitors.

In Hadrut, you will find memorial statues and an old cemetery. They have a disco, which operates on weekends. There is an Internet club, museum and a church. If you hike for about a kilometer up to the Vank village from Hadrut, you can visit another beautiful church there.
